Gandalf the Grey

I have recently been working on character illustrations from some of my favorite pastime movies – the foremost of these being the extended edition of The Lord of the Rings (6 DVDs, 12+ hours, plenty of time for artwork).

A common Friday night movie from my childhood was the 1970’s animated The Hobbit on VHS.  I have seen a few updates of Gandalf since then, not including grey-to-white, but Gandalf the Grey remains the easiest the approach.  With his smoking pipe and a hoard of eagles awaiting his messenger moth, he was always my wizard of choice for a grand quest.
